Hope Valley Living - Business Profile March 2020

In 1987, Rick King and Whitney Schwab started New Leaf Landscaping with the aim of providing complete, courteous and professional Landscaping Services to the Triangle Area.
Originally from Maine, Rick King came to Durham after undergraduate college to attend graduate school at Duke University. “I found I wanted a “hands on” work experience in the out of doors rather than a job in research. I had worked my way through college and graduate school in the landscape industry and it appealed to me as both an outlet for my creativity and an opportunity to work outside. At the time I met my business partner Whitney Schwab, he was also looking for an alternative to a career in academia. Although we had no business experience, we shared an enthusiastic attitude and a wish to work with people.”
New Leaf offers design and installation services for a variety of project sizes: patios, retaining walls, paving, outdoor lighting, as well as planting. New Leaf can offer outdoor space planting including stonework, water features, planters, and annuals rotation. Besides the installation component, New Leaf can help you maintain what you have; mowing lawns, trimming, mulching and lawn fertilizing and weed control.
New Leaf is committed to fulfilling clients’ wishes and dreams. Staying focused on listening carefully to what a client wants and needs and designing a landscape that fits that need. In addition, Rick adds, “We focus on a quality result. We do not try and compete on the basis of price, but instead prefer to deliver a product that is worth the price paid, not attempting to do it as cheaply as possible.” New Leaf’s goal is to work with people to help them bring their vision to reality.
“Durham is a wonderful place to live”, says Rick. “It has been a pleasure to be a part of such a vibrant and growing community!”
